History of Needhams

We are Electrical & Mechanical Engineers, who were contracted to manufacture spray lining equipment in the early 1980’s. In the year 2000 we build some of our own machinery for hire, by 2005 we started our own lining teams for in-situ lining of water pipes.

In the following ten years we lined in excess of 100 miles of pipes in the UK and France until 2016, so for the last 35 years we have been constantly innovating, developing and updating the techniques and our equipment. We have manufactured complete lining machines and rack feed borers, though most notably in the development of centre feed air motors, application cups, flow meters and paint pumps.

Starting out as electrical contractors in 1966 knowledge was gained of how machinery is constructed by making electrical and mechanical repairs for many different machines used in quarrying, coal preparation, stone cutting, pile driving, building, engineering and manufacturing industries.

In 1984 we were involved in the development of the first successful monitoring equipment for 2 pack pipelining, this in turn evolved into Needham's producing in-situ pipelining machinery.

In 1987 whilst continuing electrical contracting we diversified into mechanical engineering, opening a machine shop.

We continued with pipelining developments, manufactured 10 spray lining machines and 16 Rack Feed Borers in the early 1990’s

We built a Lining Machine and Rack Feed for our own use / hire in 2002 and started in-situ spray lining contracting division in 2004.

Since 2004 we only manufactured lining machinery for our own use.

We did however continue to sell Air Motors and Flowmeters into the pipelining industry.

Having done both supply of machinery and on site application gives us a unique perspective of what is required and how best to reach the correct solutions.

Consultancy

We are available to apply our extensive engineering and pipelining knowhow to assist you with your special project, we have our own machine designers and machine manufacturing facility using our UK based workshop using our Haas CNC’s and CAD design.
